Family therapy is a type of psychotherapy that involves more than one member of a nuclear family. Therapists conduct sessions to help families deal with important issues that are interfering with the functioning of the family environment. This type of counseling can be effective with families that are affecting by trauma or an adjustment (ie: divorce, death in family) which affect the family. The therapist assesses each family and the presenting problem and works the members to encourage growth and developments.
Family counseling can be helpful in dealing with difficult situations such as divorce, blended families, relationship issues, behavioral issues and parenting. The goal is to provide treatment goals for each family member based on their needs and strengths.
